Các cơ quan tổ chức: Tổ chức PANAP, Trung tâm nghiên cứu giới Gia đình và Môi trường trong phát triển (CGFED), Tổ chức FAO/IPM.

Hệ vi sinh vật đất quyết định độ màu mỡ của đất, do vậy những nhân tố gây ảnh hưởng xấu đến sự phát triển của hệ vi sinh vật sẽ làm giảm độ màu mỡ của đất. Các chất hoá học đang được sử dụng trong nông nghiệp, như phân bón hoá học, thuốc bảo vệ thực vật hoá học, đều gây ảnh hưởng xấu tới hệ vi sinh vật đất.

Đất phải được coi là vật thể sống với sự hoạt động của hệ sinh thái phong phú, có đầy đủ khả năng nuôi dưỡng cây. Đất bị chai cũng là hậu quả của việc lạm dụng phân bón hoá học và sự lãng quên về phân hữu cơ. Chỉ có phân hữu cơ mới cung cấp cho đất chất mùn. Mùn được hình thành từ rác thải hữu cơ (lá rụng, xác động vật) qua quá trình phân giải nhờ các vi sinh vật.

Phân hữu cơ có nhiều loại: phân xanh, phân chuồng và phân vi sinh. Phân vi sinh có các loại: đạm vi sinh (vi sinh vật cố định nitơ), lân vi sinh (vi sinh vật phân giải phốt pho) và kali vi sinh.

Phòng thí nghiệm Phân bón Vi sinh thuộc trường Đại học Tổng hợp trước đây và nay là Trung tâm nghiên cứu và ứng dụng phân bón vi sinh, được sự tài trợ của Nhà nước và các tổ chức quốc tế đã tiến hành nghiên cứu đề tài: “Cố định nitơ ở vùng rễ lúa” từ năm 1984. Đề tài bắt đầu từ việc phân lập các chủng vi sinh vật cố định nitơ từ đất lúa của Việt Nam. Từ hàng ngàn chủng chúng tôi đã chọn ra được một số chủng có thể dùng để sản xuất phân nitơ (đạm) vi sinh. Công nghệ sản xuất phân nitơ vi sinh đã được nghiên cứu và một phần của công nghệ này đã được chuyển giao cho địa phương.

Tương tự như phân nitơ vi sinh, chúng tôi đã tiến hành nghiên cứu phân phốt pho (lân) vi sinh, cũng bắt đầu từ việc phân lập các chủng có khả năng phân giải phôt pho. Công nghệ sản xuất phân phốt pho vi sinh cũng đã được nghiên cứu và chuyển giao cho địa phương. Đạm vi sinh và Lân vi sinh được bón vào rễ .
